All places are first come first served basis. .If booking please make sure to come as places are limited.  \nLooking through glass\, light splintering\, the refraction of crystals\, clear and dirty panes\, let us explore together the mystery of the transparency or opacity of glass\, dim or effulgent\, in words and the metaphors we make from it for our lives. We might even make some poems. \nMary Madec was born and raised in Co. Mayo\, near Westport. She has a Master’s in Old English from NUI\, Galway\, and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania. She works for Villanova University in Ireland\, and lives in the ancient sea-port village of Kinvara. \nIn 2008\, she won the Hennessy XO Prize for Emerging Poetry and subsequently published three collections with Salmon Poetry: In Other Words (2010) Demeter Does Not Remember (2014) and The Egret Lands With News From Other Parts (2019). She also edited Jessica Casey & Other Stories from Salmon Poetry (2011)\, \nParticipating glass artists will be asked to bring a piece of work with them for the duration of the event; these will be displayed in the space along with works in progress from the workshop. This will result in a studio style pop up show at the end of the afternoon. From 4.30-6pm we will open to members of the public to enjoy food\, an open mic session and a Live Collaborative Flameworking Demonstration by Lindsay LeBlanc (LooLooGlass) Creating an immersive experience for visitors\, combining visual arts through glass and written word. \n  \nScratching the Surface workshop with glass Artist Kathryna Cusheiri Sunday 4th of August 10.30 – 4pm (with a break for lunch) To book your place on this workshop please visit here You must be a member of the Glass Society of Ireland. All places are first come first served basis. If booking please make sure to come as places are limited. \nParticipating glass artists will explore the properties of glass\, cut and score glass together and work on a communal piece involving the written word. In this workshop we will start with a word transformation exercise to get in touch with the power words can have on our lives. We will be using Dremel etching tools and manual ones to have fun scratching the surface of a small glass panel to create an image and experiment with silver and gold mica in the etched marks. We will also play with fonts and power words or poems to print them onto waterslide decal and use them on another glass panel. The decals will be fired onto the glass in my studio. All the pieces will have holes drilled at the top so they can be strung up. I hope we can create a communal piece of work that has meaning for us as a collective. Please bring a sketchbook and drawing pencils! \nKathryna was born in Malta in 1962\, moved to England in 1976 and has been resident in Ireland since 1993. Her current studio is situated in Glendree\, Co.Clare. Her work has been purchased and commissioned for several collections throughout England\, Ireland and Malta including: \n“Glass: A hard and brittle substance\, typically transparent or translucent.  It is made by fusing sand with soda and lime and cooling rapidly. I use the flexible potential and properties of hot glass to explore the emotions that carry our inner world of visions\, images and fairy tales. Fairy tales have become a core part of the individual and collective mind. I am interested in the deep influence they have on cultural development and how they affect the context of our lives. These stories whether traditional\, modern or spun from parents’ creativity become our personal myths and run beneath our living perceptions and expectations. I am moved and intrigued by the way the inner world of the stories we hold influences the outer life and endeavour to weave these worlds together. I cast parts or all of the human body as the vehicle to make this magical interrelation of existence visible and tactile. It is an alchemist process of bringing what is ordinarily hidden out into the light\, working with the individual’s underlying soul story which impacts their lives transmuting it into the mould. Glass is a fabulous medium for this work and expresses this dream world as a visual life-scape running through the final Artwork in Glass.” \nParticipating glass artists will be asked to bring a piece of work with them for the duration of the event; these will be displayed in the space along with works in progress from the workshop. This will result in a studio style pop up show at the end of the afternoon. From 4.30-6pm we will open to members of the public to enjoy food and an open mic session. Creating an immersive experience for visitors\, combining visual arts through glass and written word. \n  \n#AugustCraftMonth2024 #IrishGlass #ArtWorkshops #CreativeCollaboration\n#makeseebuy

SUMMARY:Holiday open studio day/Christmas sale
DESCRIPTION:We will conduct ongoing narrated demonstrations of glassblowing\, allowing the public to watch this process and ask questions\, and offer a range of samples\, prototypes and studio seconds for sale at discounted prices. All ages are welcome and no prior registration is required. \nGlassblowing is a fascinating process involving constant activity as the molten glass is shaped by tools\, gravity and centrifugal force and visitors are able to see a simple functional object made from start to finish in about 15 minutes. Glassblowing is part of the industrial heritage of Ireland that has all but disappeared\, and the demonstrations offer a way to experience this rarely-seen activity in a safe\, relaxed setting. \nSocial distancing will be observed and all visitors are encouraged to wear a face covering and use the available sanitising products.
