SUMMARY:Winter Fused Glass Workshops
DESCRIPTION:The Winter Workshops from October to December will be open workshops so that a participant can design and make what they wish on their two 10 cm x 10 cm glass pieces. This includes making Christmas decorations and gifts. So come with your thoughts or rely on E-J for direction and you will have an enjoyable\, therapeutic and productive time away from other distractions. You’ll be guided through the process by E-J herself\, using sheet glass\, accessory glass and inclusions to create two fired pieces – choose from a hanging piece\, a coaster\, tealight holder\, a unique piece for framing or a slumped piece such as a bowl or a dish. You’ll soak up the beauty and artistic atmosphere of the venues for E-J’s classes\, at either The Boat House Gallery\, Shop and Studio\, very close to The Giant’s Causeway; Frankie Creith’s Art & Creative Workshops gallery in Portrush or at her own studio\, The Barmouth Studio\, Castlerock.\nTreat yourself or gift a voucher for someone special.\nThe workshops are held: \nevery 3rd Saturday afternoon in a month at the Boat House Gallery and Workshops from 2.30 pm – 4.30 pm\, ie\, 16 October & 20 November.\n​\nevery 1st Saturday afternoon in the month at Frankie Creith’s Gallery in Portrush\nfrom 2.30 – 4.30 pm\, ie\, 2 October\, 6 November & 4 December. \n*Where Covid-10 regulations permit a scrummy coffee/tea break will be provided and the only other thing is to wear close-toed footwear.

We will then add loops and chain for your panel so it can be displayed proudly in your home.  \nAll materials are included in the cost of the course. There is no experience necessary as you will be taught every aspect of the making process. Lunch is not included. \nGlass is a beautiful but extremely challenging medium to work in\, and because of this so very satisfying when you make something out of it. It has flaws and imperfections and this is what makes it beautiful\, individual\, its what makes it yours.

SUMMARY:Catch 2021 The First Fathom (Beach Art)
DESCRIPTION:GSoI member Fiona Byrne will be featured in the below exhibition.\nThe Little Beach\nThe First Fathom – An art exhibition with a difference\nThe artworks selected for this unique outdoor show will reflect concerns about the sea and the coastal environment. The pieces will be robust\, waterproof\, weather resistant and environmentally friendly\, they will occupy the littoral space between the tides at our preselected locations. The exhibition will be on public display for four days at three coastal sites in Kilmore Quay\, County Wexford. \nThis exhibition is an artist led initiative and is supported by Wexford County Council Arts Small Arts Festival and Experimental Events Scheme 2021. The artworks were selected from a recent open call\, our selection panel consisted of Wexford based visual artists Andi McGarry and Lar O’Toole. This team also produced previous iterations of the CATCH Art Exhibitions in 2017 and 2019\, also held in Kilmore Quay. \nImages of the installed artworks will be shared via a dedicated online resource. All of our selected artists will be paid a fee of €35 to cover some expenses. The works are for sale and no commission will be charged. \nThe exhibition will take place from the 28th to the 31st of August. DESCRIPTION:The Glass Road is a community project mapping all our members on the Island of Ireland. An extension from our very successful ‘Irish Gift Guide’ this map will help us promote you and all the fantastic glassmakers on the island. \nThe GSOI were successful in getting funding for this project from the Design and Crafts Council to present our map at the August Craft Month. \nWe want to start the project off with a consultation with our members. We want to know what you think\, love\, dislike\, feel about the project. Do you have any ideas that we might not have thought about? Let us know on June 3rd at 7.30pm. \nThe session will be recorded and a new dedicated ‘project page’ will be created on the website to house all our information and findings. \nThis project is only open to members. DESCRIPTION:This is a series of Masterclasses in Copper wheel engraving where we’ll host a class every fortnight on Zoom for the duration of the course. Using a building block approach\, each class will thoroughly cover a topic to equip the student with the knowledge to tackle any engraving subject. The first class covered studio set-up which will be followed by classes on wheel making\, simple cuts\, lettering\, carving depths and building toward doing multiple overlapping figurative imagery.\nThe classes run for about an hour with Q&A time afterward\, are scheduled for Fridays at 8pm GMT and cost €30 each. This is a great taster session if your curious about stained glass! \nYou will learn: \nTo follow a pattern\, cut glass\, grind and foil\, solder\, and finally to finish off your decoration with patinas and polish ready to hang on your Christmas tree. You will make 1 decoration choosing from a number of different patterns. All materials are included in the cost of the course. There is no experience nessesary as you will be taught every aspect of the making process.  \nGlass is a beautiful but extremely challenging medium to work in\, and because of this so very satisfying when you make something out of it. It has flaws and imperfections and this is what makes it beautiful\, individual\, its what makes it yours.  \n* Each student will be required to wash their hands on entry\, and wipe down all the tools they use at the end of the day or between sharing of the tools. SUMMARY:Stained Glass Panel Workshop with WildBird Studio
DESCRIPTION:Learn to create a beautiful glass panel using the Copper Foil technique of Stained Glass. \nYou will learn: \nTo use a pattern\, cut glass\, grind and foil\, solder\, and finally to finish off your piece with patinas and polish. We will then add loops and chain for your panel so it can be displayed proudly in your home.  \nAll materials are included in the cost of the course. There is no experience nessesary as you will be taught every aspect of the making process. Lunch is not included. \nGlass is a beautiful but extremely challenging medium to work in\, and because of this so very satisfying when you make something out of it. It has flaws and imperfections and this is what makes it beautiful\, individual\, its what makes it yours.  \n* Each student will be required to wash their hands on entry\, and wipe down all the tools they use at the end of the day or between sharing of the tools. We have sanitiser stations set up where you can regularly wash your hands. Masks or face shields will be required unless guidelines change. Bring your own cup for tea and coffee and utensils for eating your lunch if required. I will sanitise my hands between helping individual students and will try to do all teaching via a workstation of my own instead of using the students workstation. \n**In normal times you have until 7 days before the event to cancel for a full refund. Please feel safe in the knowledge that any corona related cancellations will be refunded in full no matter how close to the event\, all I ask is that you give me as much advanced warning as possible.
