The Glass society has been releasing an annual journal for the past five years and at this five year point the Board Members felt it was a good time to review the content and format of this publication. A time to make improvements and ensure its relevance to the sector and beyond.
The new format publication will be launched in the last quarter of 2020. It will strive to support the aims of the GSoI: promoting excellence in Irish glass, increasing visibility, advocating for the community, facilitating communication, increasing public appreciation of our craft and developing the international profile of Irish glass.
The journal will contain a mix of invited content and open call content which we hope will sufficiently represent the period. Including exhibition reviews, historical articles, new voices and current issues. The issue will cover the period from July 2019 to July 2020.

Lessons from Covid-19
We are all still struggling with the effects of Covid-19, it is an ongoing issue and thus it is difficult to represent the full impact of this crisis. We wish to gather a diverse selection of perspectives on how the current pandemic has affected your practice, with a mind to lessons learnt.
We would like to hear from you, what are the biggest barriers you have encountered, how have you adapted and what changes might be here to stay. We are conscious of the journals archival value and our ambition is to represent the experience of the community in the face of this unprecedented situation.
Proposals should be from 100-200 words each; final submissions will be 300-400 words.
Large scale installations and architectural glass
Have you recently completed or, are in the process of completing, a large scale glass commission for a public or private space? We invite you to share your perspective as a designer, artist, maker, or architect. Outlining your process and concepts, sharing your experience of the commissioning process and illustrating the impact of the final work.
Proposal max 300 words, final selected article to be approx. 800-1,000. Please also send 1-3 images to illustrate your proposal; it is important that you can supply hi-resolution, print quality images for the final publication.
Submission deadline is the 8th of August. Final articles, including imagery, will need to be completed for early September.
We have appointed a new editor to oversee the production of this new publication. Dr. Fiona Byrne is a previous Board member of the GSoI. Fiona brings with her excellent knowledge of Irish glass and the wider craft sector. She was the Education Manager for the Design & Crafts Council Ireland, and is currently working freelance for the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, creating content for the Homo Faber online guide. Here she is below!
