The Golden Glass Thread – Connecting Past and Present is going to be held on the 4th April 2025. It is supported by The European Crafts Alliance and The National Museum Of Ireland. The Glass Society of Ireland has planned an event-filled day to coincide with our AGM. Siobhán Doyle, Curator, NMI Collins Barracks, will present on the work of Harry Clarke and visit the Visible Storage Collection of The National Museum of Ireland. We will have some glass objects from the National collection taken out for closer examination. Sadhbh Mowlds, Visual Artist and GSOI member, will share the concepts behind her work and how these are developed. We will launch the GSoI’s annual publication ‘Glass Ireland’ which composes of articles written by academics, artists, gallerists, curators and representatives of relevant national organisations, presenting a professional overview of Irish glass in the contemporary art world. Don’t forget to bring along your ‘pocket sized glass treasure’. This is an opportunity to shine a light on any hidden studio gems, hearing the stories of their history and how they were made. We also have a social event that will take place in the evening. The tour and artists talk are open to the general public and we hope to introduce the craft of glass to a wider audience.
