Making connects us with the world, through the raw materials we shape, the sharing of skills over generations and the exchange of crafted objects. There are many ways that we are interconnected through our practices. However, in contrast, making can often be solitary, head down in the studio, immersed in the work. The ebb and flow between connection and separation is a familiar rhythm for many artists.
This exhibition invites us to reflect deeply on the connections that sustain us. How can glass add to a conversation about a more connected world? In a time of division, can making offer us a root to understanding our shared existence? What are the symbiotic relationships that we need to thrive?
We encourage a wide range of interpretations of these ideas. Works might explore relationships with community, land, tradition, technology, ecosystems, or something entirely unexpected. Glass must play a central role, whether in form, concept, or making process.
Aligning with the underlying aim of the Society, to build a strong interconnected community, the exhibition is a chance to come together, to showcase glass in new ways, and to share its significance with a wider audience. Our goal is to highlight how glass as a material and practice, reflects and shapes the networks we are all part of – human, more-than-human and beyond.
