This weekend the Glass Society Of Ireland travelled to Barcelona to represent our community at the Mostra Film Festival organised by @artesaniacat at Disseny Hub. Fourteen films based on different craft practices were selected. What a privilege it was to be part of this extraordinary company of makers and directors. Our film ‘Glisten’ commissioned by GSOI and made by Jenny Keogh (Stand Out Films) is created to open the door on the conversation around a career in glass. It features Laura Quinn, Peadar Lamb, Alison Byrne and Rory Leadbetter.
‘GLISTEN’ SYNOPSIS
The aim of The Glass Society of Ireland in commissioning this short documentary film is to highlight various pathways for glass making as a potential career option. The Glass Society of Ireland is an independent, all-island, non-profit organisation that represents & promotes the Irish glass community all over the world. Showing an excellence in Irish glass, develops the international profile of Irish glass and increases the visibility of the craft and community.
The 10-minute film profiles four Irish artists working in a range of glass specialisms, including blowing, stained glass, glass construction and flame working. The film shows the processes of makers: Laura Quinn, Peadar Lamb, Alison Byrne and Rory Leadbetter. Hot and cold working methods are featured through various approaches, from fine art to craft to architectural installations. Each artist speaks about the journey to date and their experience while working in the field of glass.
Directed by Award winning filmmaker Jenny Keogh of Stand Out Films, the film is not only informative but visually beautiful.
