Stefka Bargazova & Sarah Rothwell: Insights into the Dan Klein Collection

Join us to discuss the Dan Klein Conservation Project, a collaborative project that brought together conservators, curators & practitioners
Insights into the Dan Klein Conservation Project
The British Museums Object Conservator Stefka Bargazova and National Museums Scotland Senior Curator of Modern & Contemporary Design Sarah Rothwell join us to discuss the Dan Klein Conservation Project, a wonderful collaborative project that they initiated in 2017 that brought conservators, curators, and practitioners together to share their knowledge to help preserve works of craft and art for the next generation. As with the life of any collection, things may get lost or damaged along the way and may need a bit of TLC. This was the case for a number of seminal works that were part of the Dan Klein & Alan J Poole Private Collection of Modern Glass, gifted to the organisation in 2009 and internationally recognised as a significant survey of some of the leading names in British and Irish Studio and Art Glass. So, this is an opportunity to learn more about the collection and the works that were restored, and how cross-disciplinary dialogues can aid contemporary conservation practices.
Stefka Bargazova, former artefacts conservator at National Museums Scotland, is currently working for the British Museum on the Ancient Girsu/Getty Project in Iraq. Sarah Rothwell is Senior Curator of Modern & Contemporary Design where she holds responsibility for the British, European, and other ‘Western’ collections of glass, ceramics, metalwork, jewellery, and industrial design circa 1945 to the present, which include a nationally significant collection of Contemporary Craft.
